A cruise on Lake Tremblant
Early Saturday morning, participants of the 24th Perron gathering, boarded the brand new boat, Le Grand Manitou II, for a one hour cruise on the calm waters of the Lake Tremblant. The boat covered a little over six kilometers; approximately half of the length of this body of water. Though the lake is but one kilometer in width, it has a maximum depth of 91 meters. It is one of the last lakes in the region to freeze in winter.
The landscape around us was beautiful and serene. We had an excellent view of Mont Tremblant, of the cottages (and mansions) on the banks of the lake, of our hotel and of the sleeping giant, a geographical formation resembling a person lying down. It is easy to understand why this little corner of the province has often been the inspiration for painters and writers.
While cruising on Lake Tremblant, we were given a little history on its first Amerindian inhabitants, on its logging industry from the late 19th century to an end in the 1940’s and on its present-day vocation as a tourist destination. Today, the price of even the smallest lots on Lake Tremblant start at one million dollars! The only people who have the right to have a boat on the lake are those who live or who own property on its shores. This information had the people on the cruise talking and thinking seriously of trying their luck at the casino later in the evening. And why not do like hockey great Mario Lemieux and buy a lovely residence in this charming corner of the Laurentians?
An Evening at the Casino
In the shuttle bus on the way to the casino, everyone was smiling and anticipation was in the air. Despite a few problems upon our arrival, I think all the participants enjoyed their evening.
The staff of the Casino was most welcoming and helpful. And we needed their expertise! The slot machines are not what they once were. In order to work some of the machines, an advanced course in gambling would be necessary. Some of our members, however, are better informed and were seen trying more complicated games of chance.
Upon our return around midnight, some individuals were still smiling while others were more subdued. Congratulations to the winners and for those who lady luck did not smile upon, better luck next time!
The BBQ Supper
The supper was held in a section of the restaurant of the Hôtel du Lac that faced Lake Tremblant and Mont Tremblant. What a spectacular view to accompany our meal! As always, there was much conversation and this continued even when the Perrons were on their way (toujours en marche) to the buffet tables.
During the meal, our president, Robert (901) and his wife, Denise St-Pierre, were presented with a certificate and a bouquet of flowers to mark their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Each year, at our gatherings, the AFPA offers two memberships (or two renewals) and two bags containing promotional articles. Robert (901) won the membership renewal and Bertha Perron (869) won the gift bag. The following day, Michel (152) won the membership renewal and the gift bag went to Lise Perron-Vachon (942).
Several door prizes were also given out. The lucky winners during the BBQ supper were Linda Perron (943), Murielle Mcnicoll and Florence St-Pierre. Micheline Perron (393) and Micheline Bilodeau won the door prizes awarded after the Annual General Meeting on Sunday.
Congratulations to all the winners!

The mass in the Saint-Jovite Church
We gathered at the St-Jovite church to attend the Mass celebrated by Abbot St-Amour and by concelebrant, Père Raymond Perron. Abbot St-Amour highlighted the gathering of the Perron families in this beautiful region and congratulated us on coming together to honour our ancestors. We attended a very lovely Mass.
