The organizers of the 2010 Perron Gathering extend a warm welcome to all Perrons and their friends.
Come and discover Saint-Isidore-de-Clifton where generations of the past mingle with the youth of today; where the beliefs of yesterday and the hopes of the future become one. Rolling hills, forests, green countryside dotted with small brooks, this is the scenery that awaits you.
Bertha, Léonie, Céline, Claude, Réjean and Normand will be ready to receive you when you visit 21 August.
This municipality known as Popeville in 1884, took the name of Saint-Isidore-d’Auckland in 1910. At that time, Joseph Perron was a member of the town council. The first sawmill had been built in 1906 by Thomas Perron and in 1907 the residents had their first school and first general store. The first church was built in 1908. Most residents hailed from the Beauce region.
In 1997, the municipality was renamed Saint-Isidore-de-Clifton. In the 1960s, the inhabitants lived on small farms and raised cattle, pigs, hens and sheep. Saint Isidore is the patron saint of the municipality and its statue shows him holding a sheaf of wheat, symbol of the agriculture of the region.
Nowadays, André Perron is mayor of the municipality that comprises 799 very environmentally-friendly people. Indeed since 2001, Saint-Isidore-de-Clifton is regarded as an eco-village offering such services as the Marché de Solidarité, Camping-Vert, and small farm projects. Trade and business concerns of the municipality employ nearly 75% of the local workers while a great number of volunteers serve in several service and mutual aid organizations.
On 21 August, church bells will chime cheerfully in Saint-Isidore-de-Clifton to welcome members of the Association des familles Perron d’Amérique. Participants will be given a historical account of the parish church during mass. The bells were cast at the Bollée foundry in Orléans, France. It’s a date! Come and discover the rich heritage of that church which includes magnificent sculptures by the Bourgault brothers of St-Jean-Port-Joli.
The oldest cenotaph in the province is located at East Clifton. It dates from 1920 and was erected to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the 1914-1918 world war. You will be able to visit it during your stay at Saint-Isidore.
